Franciszek Michailow von Kamieński

Franciszek Michailow von Kamieński (1851–1912)

Franciszek Michailow von Kamieński was a Polish botanist. His name has also been spelled Frans Michailow von Kamieńsky or misspelled with the accent above the e, as in Kamiénski.

Kamienski made a significant contribution to our knowledge of Utricularia. He visited Kew and other herbaria and apparently travelled in the tropics and elsewhere in search of Utricularia specimens. He published a number of papers on the genus between 1878 and 1902 and contributed the account of the family Lentibulariaceae in Engler & Prantl, Die Naturlichen Planzenfamilien (1895). He described a number of sections and species within Utricularia.

The Australian Utricularia, U. kamienskii, named after him. The section Kamienskia P.Taylor in the genus Utricularia is also named in his honour.
