Pygmy Drosera are not exactly plants you
grow to impress your non-CP friends. It
may take a magnifying glass to see them well. The plants are
small. The flowers are small.
You grow pygmy Drosera because they are cute and relatively
easy to grow for a carnivore. Their small
size means you get to put more in a pot. And it is fun to follow
them through their seasonal changes.
I grow most of my pygmies
outside all year. Well, except if the temperature is going to be more than a few degrees below freezing at night I do put them in a garage window. I like to have some indoors under lights so I can see
them more often. But I have found over the years that growing
them outside as much and as long as possible usually works
best. The plants need the seasonal cues to do what comes
naturally. The plants indoors just grow and grow. That's nice
too. But you do need to have more of the same species outside
to replace them in the future.
It would be too difficult to list pygmy gemmae on the Seed
Bank list. There is usually a very short window when they can
be shipped easily. They can be stored in the refrigerator for
a few weeks but I try to avoid that. If I have extra gemmae,
I sometimes include them as a bonus in seed shipments during
October and November. If you would like some, ask me about
it then. |
