Carnivorous Plant Prints by Scott Bennett Syracuse NY artist, Scott Bennett, is releasing a number of Carnivorous Plant prints from his collection of paintings and drawings. Many of these works have been made popular in Peter D'Amatos book, The Savage Garden. -- These high quality fine art prints are printed using the latest light fast, 8 color, pigment based inkjet technology, on mould made, cotton fiber paper, that is lignin, acid and chlorine free. This type of print is often referred to as a 'Giclee' or 'Piezo' print. When mounted under glass and exposed to average indoor light levels, they are expected to last over 100 years. -- Each work is printed separately upon request, hand cut off the roll of paper that feeds the printer and inspected by the artist for quality, before being signed and dated.
New book: Pitcher Plants of the Americas Pitcher Plants of the Americas by Stewart McPherson presents the most extensive general review of the pitcher plants of the Americas yet undertaken - it is a substantive overview of the systematics, biology, ecology, biogeography, conservation, and horticulture of the five genera of American Pitcher plants (s.l.), and their member species, hybrids, and cultivars. -- This book includes detailed descriptions of three genera of true pitcher plants (Darlingtonia, Heliamphora, and Sarracenia) and two genera of carnivorous tank bromeliads (Brocchinia and Catopsis), a review of the conservation status and needs of the pitcher plants, and a consideration of the role of horticulture in increasing awareness of interest in and conservation of the group.
New book: Growing Carnivorous Plants Conservationist, horticulturist, and photographer Barry Rice has written a book on carnivorous plants in cultivation and the wild. This book, 8.5x11' and 225 pages long, has over 330 images of carnivorous plants and treats every carnivorous (and subcarnivorous) plant known. -- Part scientific review, part horticultural technique, and part philosophy, this book should fit an interesting niche on your bookshelf.
Carnivorous Plants DVD - Volume 1 This summer, I was contacted by Steve Millar, a fellow longtime CP lover. It was during one of our conversations, that I mentioned that I had some vintage footage from many CP field trips. He suggested that it would be a good idea to make that video available to other enthusiasts. After some thought, I began culling my collection, looking for useable footage. It quickly became apparent that the old technology was pretty limited in terms of resolution, so I decided to make a few trips to some old favorite spots to shoot new video footage with both a Canon GL1 and a Sony Digital8 camera. Surprisingly, I found that there were still some good habitats existing, though many longtime favorites had been decimated by either development, or in the case of one particular spot, the unchecked use of herbicides by the power company!
